PRINCE2 provides project managers and organisations with a standardised approach for the management of projects.
Whenever you want to change or deliver a new service, product, organisational process or system you need to know what is required, why it is necessary, by when key events need to happen, how it must occur and who needs to be involved.
PRINCE2 can assist you to prepare, execute and close a project following a well proven project management method and increase the project’s chances of success. It comprises of five elements with strong emphasis on principles and people, supported by well defined roles, practices and processes that can be scaled and tailored to suit different project types, sizes and the project context.
The three people-focused activities central to the PRINCE2 method:
PRINCE2’s practices outline key aspects of project management that need to be applied continually across a project’s lifecycle. Each practice describes key concepts, management products (project documents), responsibilities and techniques important for its application.
PRINCE2’s process lifecycle includes seven processes guided by its principles. Each process includes a sequence of activities and recommended actions that integrate PRINCE2’s people and practices elements.
As projects operate in different environments the key aim of the project context element is to ensure that PRINCE2 is adapted appropriately for the organisation and project environments it will be used in.

PRojects IN Controlled Environments version2
Initially developed as PRINCE in 1989 as a project management method for the United Kingdom’s CCTA (Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency), it later evolved into a generic project management approach and renamed to PRINCE2. This new version was released in 1996 by the UK government as a project management standard which could be applied and adapted for all government projects. Since its release, it has been adopted by thousands of private and public sector organisations worldwide.
PRINCE2 has undergone several reviews with the aim of improving usability, respond to current trend and practices in the world of project management and offer more guidance on application and tailoring.
The latest edition of PRINCE2 is edition 7, released in 2023.
